Locating ourselves in the environments of our relationships
“Decide what you stand for. And then stand for it all the time.”
HBS Prof. Clayton Christensen – world’s foremost authority on disruptive innovation.
To all our highly valued clients and acquaintances:
In recent weeks, I have been taking a fresh look about what I stand for at this point in time in today’s world, as a human being, in relationship to all other living human beings.
A personal manifesto, if you will. What might be transcendent, timeless, universal and energizing life principles that I can clarify and commit to, for the foreseeable future?
Noteworthy, valuable purposes that I’d consider consistently pursuing and giving life to?
By definition, a personal manifesto can be a declaration of core values and beliefs, what we stand for, and how we intend to live our life. It can function both as a statement of our principles and our call to action. A personal manifesto can serve us in several ways:
As a framework for designing and living an extraordinary, joyous life.
As a dynamic, core source of sustainable, inspirational, motivational fire.
As a foundation upon which to launch pathways to fulfill and accomplish.
As a way to bring forth new life and new ways of living into full existence.
A simpler way to define a personal manifesto may be as a declaration of what you want in life. It can define what’s really important to you and what you most want to achieve.
So why write one?
A personal manifesto can help us focus our priorities. When written with empowering language, it can help us on days when we may not feel 100% or when we could use some additional encouragement to keep going and to stay on track with our True North.
A recent short version from me?
“In a basic way, who I am is the possibility of authenticity, service and accomplishment. Not just for me, but also for the world of us – a place to stand and a place to come from”
I have a more delineated and detailed version that I currently sorting out for myself.
I have been asking others what their version or work-in-progress is. I am also in the process of encouraging many people to freshly look at and declare that for themselves.
We can start with a blank canvas and new palette of paints with vivid, enlivening colors.
As we create, we can start with a Zen Mind or Beginner’s Mind – that is, as having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner in that subject also would.
