What are we now learning and what are we going to do about it?
“Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction. The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.”

The Purpose Of Education / Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
Morehouse College Student Paper, The Maroon Tiger, in 1947

What are we now learning and what are we going to do about it?
To all our highly valued clients and acquaintances:

It’s March 2021. Time to “March Forth”, as some say. What are we learning?

About ourselves? The human condition? About what it means to be human?

As noted from the MLK quote above, seems we could all benefit from more highly disciplined, critical thinking and discernment within today’s information whirlwinds.

Seems we can all get distracted and affected from today’s stream of non-stop changes.

And, as a result, we may not necessarily be making the best choices with the best info.

In a 2014 survey of 400 U.S. employers, 81% identified critical thinking as a necessary skill for college students to learn; 91% believed success in the workplace required “a candidate’s demonstrated capacity to think critically, communicate clearly, and solve complex problems” as more important than the choice of one’s undergraduate major (The Association of American Colleges and Universities) We can all choose to improve.

We are challenged to be committed to rigorously determine what’s true and real.

We might be doing all that we think is necessary and we also need to be sufficient.

As we develop perspectives and make choices, what’s it based on?

Among Stephen R. Covey’s ideas is that how we SEE the world or situations around us determines what we DO, and what we do determines what we GET, or the outcome. It’s a deceptively simple concept and one that many of us have re-learned many times.

Covey calls it the See-Do-Get Cycle. When we change the way we See things, it influences what we Do and the results we Get. I think that this is profoundly important.

Not only for each of us personally, but maybe especially so in the public square of life.

If you are out to create a Banner Year for yourself – a Bumper Crop Year – where you are being your best and beating your best (and having fun), what would it be based on?

What processes will you follow to create growth and prosperity for yourself and others?

Repeatedly, over time – what’s your vision & plan for yourself for the next 3-6 months?

All based on our ability to think critically with best info we can access

Maybe only thing to fear is ignorance? An unending frontier? A mountain with no top?

I’m sure you’ve heard, “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.”

– often cited by Derek Bok, former President of Harvard University.

Thomas J. Watson, the First CEO of IBM once said “All the problems of the world could be settled easily if men were only willing to think. The trouble is that men very often resort to all sorts of devices in order not to think, because thinking is such hard work.”

(“THINK” is a slogan associated with American multinational technology company IBM)

From one of Bob Dylan’s earlier songs…

All you can do is do what you must. You do what you must do, and you do it well
